Functional Categories

Description

All proteins were assigned to functional categories according to the SubtiWiki database (Michna et al., 2016).
  • (Pie chart, Upper panel): We first counted genes in each category. In case that a gene is assigned to multiple (n > 1) categories, the sum of each category simply increments itself by 1/n, so that a relative overview of functional distribution of genes is achieved.
  • (Pie chart, Middle panel): The proteomic data (alpha values for each protein) were classified as above to get an overview on the relative allocation of translation capacity.
  • (Bar chart, Lower panel): The bar chart represents the absolute share of translation resources that is used for the individual functional categories.
Data presentation was performed using Google Charts.
